Virtual Concert: Bastard Bearded Irishmen on St. Patrick’s Day

Social distancing pro tip: here’s how you can live stream the Pittsburgh-based Irish band’s St. Patrick’s Day performance on Tuesday.

Update 3/17/2020 10 am: Due to the most recent, rapidly changing guidelines for social gatherings, the band will be doing a remote feed in from a private, undisclosed location.

Since most of, well all of, the live music performances in Pittsburgh have been canceled, 25 Carrick Ave, (a performance venue in Carrick) is planning to host a series of virtual concerts starting on Tuesday, St. Patrick’s Day with the Bastard Bearded Irishmen.

Mar. 17 @ 8:00 pm: Bastard Bearded Irishmen Virtual Concert

The Bastard Bearded Irishmen will perform a virtual concert that will be livestreamed via their Facebook page, thanks to the team at 25 Carrick.

The Bastard Bearded Irishmen: A Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Tradition

The Bastard Bearded Irishmen is a Pittsburgh band that is well known for Irish music. The band began playing in local pubs, which led to three albums (Drinking to the Dead, Rebastard & Rise of the Bastard), and a tour schedule that allowed them to share a stage with bands such as The Rumjacks and Gogol Bordello. They’ve also opened for that other well-known Irish band, the Dropkick Murphys on the “Shamrock N Roll” tour in Pittsburgh.

Each year, the band plays a St. Patrick’s Day concert at the Rex Theater, which they affectionately call “St. Party’s Day.” Due to current circumstances, they have postponed the concert to the summer. Instead of an indoor show, the band performed a mobile concert along Carson St. on Saturday.

Danny Rectenwald, mandolinist for the Bastard Bearded Irishmen, explains, “Instead of just canceling, we decided to do a virtual performance since most people will just be stuck at home on St. Patrick’s Day. It’s our hope that our fans will be able to still enjoy our show while practicing social distance. It’s a bummer that people can’t gather together as they would under normal circumstances, but it doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate life, music, and a stiff drink. We hope to bring some fun and happiness to a difficult situation.”

25 Carrick Ave Performance Venue

25 Carrick Ave is a former church that has been repurposed as a venue for live music and other performances in the Carrick neighborhood of Pittsburgh. 25 Carrick Ave is a project of Hear Corp, a Pittsburgh production company that offers media production services.

25 Carrick Ave is launching a series of virtual concerts, Live at 25 The Pandemic Series. The have set up a fundraising page to raise money to support the artists. You can support the series by donating to the Live at 25 GoFundMe page.

More St. Patrick’s Day Livestream Events

The Dropkick Murphys, a well-known Irish band from Boston, had to postpone their annual St. Patrick’s Day concert as well. They will also be livestreaming a full concert on Tuesday, March 17.
