What to do in Pittsburgh this week

This Weekend in Pittsburgh: From B to A (Braddock to Avalon) & MLK Day

From concerts to museums, there are lots of (free) ways to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in Pittsburgh.

Welcome to winter in Pittsburgh. Be sure to scroll down to our event picks for the weekend. We’ve picked out a weekend of events that offer an opportunity to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and check out some of the artists and museums in town.

COMIC BOOK PROFESSIONAL: Get to know Dave Wachter
Local comic book artist Dave Wachter sat down with us for a look into his day-to-day pursuit. The award-winning comic book creator works from his home office in Forest Hills and has brought several familiar comics to life, including Godzilla and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

POP-UP: Brew Gentlemen in Avalon
Do you live north of downtown? There’s a rad pop-up happening Saturday night in Avalon that you should know about. We’re huge fans of Blue Sparrow (food truck) and Campfired (wood-fired pizza truck); seeing them collaborate and whip up some unique takes on mobile food has us jazzed. No ticket required, just drop in and enjoy a special, one-night-only menu with $5 beers from Brew Gentlemen.

WINE NIGHT: Beyond the Union Grill Deal
Tell a friend! Here’s a look at where to find the deals and which nights the specials hit. Did we leave out your favorite wine night? Drop us a note. We’re happy to continue updating this guide.

PODCAST: Starship Mantis and a Slew of Collabs
In Episode 11 of our podcast, “The Slaw: Staying on Top of Pittsburgh,” we switched up the format to record live from New Year / New Galaxy concert in McKees Rocks. We chatted with all the businesses involved to capture the collective flavor of Pittsburgh collaboration.

WINTER SEASONAL BEER: Deep Breakfast from Brew Gentlemen
Brewed using coffee from Deeper Roots (Cincinnati, OH), the Deep Breakfast coffee stout has returned to the menu at Brew Gentlemen. The quarterly (seasonal) beer is chock full of coffee taste and aroma. By the way – if coffee is your thing, there is exactly ONE coffee shop in Pittsburgh that serves Deeper Roots. Head to Caffe D’Amore in Lawrenceville for a cup of their specialty roast.

SHOP LOCAL: PG&H celebrates local makers with a retail shop downtown
We chatted with the team at Shop PG&H about what it means to really shop (and support) local biz. The Smithfield Street boutique houses a Redhawk Coffee espresso bar and works closely with local makers to bring their goods to market.
