LIVE MUSIC: New Year, New Galaxy

Our commitment to showcasing local artists continues with an upbeat event headlined by Starship Mantis. Join us on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Black Forge II (McKees Rocks) for New Year, New Galaxy.

đŸŽ¶ MUSIC: DJ Femi, Trio+ Shad Ali and high-energy headliner Starship Mantis (jazz/funk/hip hop).

đŸșBEER: Dancing Gnome Beer in Sharpsburg has successfully worked with artists to create unique, limited-edition collaboration beers that celebrate creative milestones. As fans of Starship Mantis, the Dancing Gnome team partnered with the band to brew a cream ale — Intergalactic Love. The beer will be released on Saturday (at the brewery) and will be available for all attendees at our show.

☕VENUE: In 2019, Black Forge expanded to launch their latest outpost in McKees Rocks. The former bank is now a coffee shop and concert venue called Black Forge II.

🚀 DRESS: Totally optional (come as you are) but folks feeling extra groovy can expect to be amongst an intergalactic costume party. Starship fans – show us what you’ve got.

🎟TICKETS: Tickets are $15 and available here.

PODCAST: Tis the season for pho
In Episode 09 of our podcast, “The Slaw: Staying on Top of Pittsburgh,” Ben Wong (Two Sisters, Banh Mi + Ti) chats with us about Vietnamese food in Pittsburgh. Pho – a hearty, noodle soup is super popular during cold weather.

SHOP: Coffee Shop in Swissvale
HLane Dry Goods and Coffee is a unique hybrid concept that offers on-site seamstress and tailor services, along with a full service coffee shop. Built inside an industrial-rustic space, the Swissvale community has embraced this husband-wife owned shop located at 2009 Noble Street.

EAT: The Top Food Moments of 2019
We asked Pittsburgh’s foodie community to spotlight THEIR favorite food moments of 2019. Picks include everything from Driftwood Oven (Lawrenceville) to Blue Sparrow (food truck) to Party Cake Shop (Brookline) to the Western PA Lamb Festival (Strip District).

BEER: Revisiting the Brewery Openings of 2019
Last year we showcased the launch of three new breweries in Pittsburgh. Take a look back at our stories on Cinderlands Warehouse (Strip District), Inner Groove (Verona) and Lincoln Avenue Brewery (Bellevue).
