Know a couple who loves craft beer? Point them to ShuBrew’s prix-fixe, 5-course beer pairing dinner at their new digs in Zelienople.
ABV is our weekly series that highlights a different beer from a local Pittsburgh brewery every week. Check out our past picks here.
About a half hour north of downtown Pittsburgh, ShuBrew has been making waves in the Western Pennsylvania craft beer scene.
Since their launch in 2013, the ShuBrew team has scaled up to operate a full production brewery (in Harmony) and a restaurant / brewpub (in Zelienople). Both of their Butler County locations offer taproom hours and a selection of beers from the in-house brewing team.
And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make. LOVE YOU LOVE YOU LOVE YOU LOVE YOU! We will miss you…
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, ShuBrew in Zelienople has unveiled a special beer pairing dinner. Read on for a peek at the menu of this prix-fixe event on Monday, February 10.
Couples can call ahead to reserve their spots for the pre-paid, all-inclusive experience. This is ShuBrew’s first beer dinner at their new (expanded) location in Zelienople.
ShuBrew’s Valentine’s Day Beer Dinner – Monday, Feb 10
Date / Time: Monday, Feb 10 (6pm to 9pm)
Location: ShuBrew // 205 S Main St // Zelienople, PA 16063
Price: $160 per couple (includes tax and gratuity)
In the past, ShuBrew has seated guests in intervals. Because there is more room at their new location, guests can expect ONE seating (6pm to 9pm) that encompasses both their front seating area AND the private party room in the rear.
The Valentine’s Beer Dinner is a Five-Course Pairing
Per co-owner Erika Shumaker, the dinner will get started with a light, palette cleansing beer to set the tone for the evening.
“We plan to kick things off with a clean ‘arrival beer’ – our German Helles,” says Shumaker. “From there, the dinner progresses with a series of 8-oz beer pours per course.”
How does a Beer Dinner Work?
ShuBrew’s approach to pairing food with beer is focused on three methods.
COMPLEMENTARY: the beer flavors and the food flavors work together in synchronization.
CONTRASTING: the opposite of complementary, a good example of contrasting flavors is pairing an IPA with a sweet food. Guests will note the stark difference(s) in taste, but when presented as a pairing, there is a satisfying juxtaposition of flavors.
ELEVATE A DISH: similar to complementary, the purpose of elevating a food item (with beer) it to make the dish whole.
“We encourage guests to take the knowledge and experience from our beer dinners and try their own versions at home,” Shumaker explains. “Our brewers and servers are equipped to walkthrough each pairing, answer questions and make suggestions.”

Coming Soon: Intergalactic Wanderlust
Shumaker also says to stay tuned for ShuBrew’s upcoming beer release – Intergalactic Wanderlust.
“It’s a non-hazy beer that will be available in cans as well,” Shumaker explains. “The name is a tribute to the Beastie Boys – fans will remember listening to Intergalactic (their single).”
Did you know that right now we have not only one, but TWO non-hazy IPAs on draft right now? These moments don’t happen…
Harmony: 733 Spring Street // Harmony, PA // 16037

The Valentine’s Day Beer Dinner is here (in Zelienople).
