Plus a local business that will pack a picnic for you
So it looks like social distancing will be here for the summer. Even if you are meeting a friend or two outdoors, it will likely be a BYOB (bring your own beverage), BYOC (bring your own chair) and a BYOF (bring your own food) type of gathering. So this basically means this is the summer of picnics. We’ve put together a list of items to help you make sure your picnic game is on point. If fear of public restrooms is keeping you at home, we’ve even got the details on a helpful product that is getting rave reviews. From pickles to pepperoni rolls, here are our picks for a perfect afternoon.
Boiled or fried? Pierogi Toss brings some Pittsburgh to your cornhole set
Cornhole is fine, but there has to be a more Pittsburgh yard game to bring to the party. The folks at Commonwealth Press have created a very Pittsburgh game – Pierogi Toss. Pierogi Toss comes with its own set of rules or you can use the pierogi bean bags with your cornhole set.
SHOP: $60 from Commonwealth Press. Use code VERYLOCAL for free shipping from now until July 4, 2020.
Every picnic needs some pickles
We’re loving this T-shirt that is printed from a hand-carved lino block from Black Dog Print Shop. This pickle print is available in adult, baby and kids sizes. You can also pick up the pickle design on a sticker or a dishtowel.
A T-shirt that supports the neighborhood
My brother is now our model 😂 Penn Ave shirts are here! Thanks so much to @revivalprintco for printing these all for us!…
The proceeds from this T-shirt benefit Workshop PGH (they’re supporting the community and giving away masks while they are closed). This T-shirt was designed by Paul Haggerty and is available from Workshop PGH’s website.
Too hot to cook? Roll up to the picnic with some of these…
A pepperoni roll is a perfect snack to pack for a picnic or a bike ride. Think of these pepperoni rolls as the original hot pocket. Rolling Pepperoni has been making these tasty treats and selling them around town for a few years now. You can pick up plain pepperoni, while the Monogahela features muffuletta olive tapenade, and Rolling Pepperoni also offers a vegan roll.
Let someone else pack a picture-perfect picnic for you
Planning a special meal but not sure what to do instead of a restaurant? Looking to pack the picture-perfect picnic? Let Blanket and Board do the work for you. This picnic business was founded by two Pittsburgh friends who share a love of charcuterie. They will pack you a picnic basket or set up a spread for you and your crew. [Check out this interview from Next Pittsburgh to learn more about this picnic business.]
Don’t fear the portapotty. Pick up a pStyle.
One of the big concerns about picnicking or going anywhere during a pandemic is what do you do if you have to pee. While this isn’t such a big deal for some people, it is not so easy for the other 50% of the population. There is a solution that is quietly being recommended amongst friends. You can now pick up one of these handy devices at 3 Rivers Outdoor Company in Regent Square. [Want to learn more about where to get outdoors? Now in stock at 3ROC! The @the_pstyle makes taking care of nature’s calls much easier while out in nature. I (Christine) have used a number of similar devices on rafting and hiking trips and none have been as easy or as reliable as the pstyle. I recently took a road trip and I enjoyed not needing to frequent public restrooms but instead was able to pullover and comfortably go beside the car. #Repost @the_pstyle with @get_repost ・・・ So many combos…..so many places to use the pStyle! We’ve heard from lots of folks over the years about very specific applications that the pStyle has changed the game for them.
A picnic table for uninvited guests
Make the squirrels in your backyard feel welcome with this tiny picnic table from YinzerMaker. You can even pick up an extra tiny table cloth in your choice of colors.
