Back to School with Very Local, Photography

A Virtual Photography Exhibit; curated by Pat Hogan

As part of our visual arts focus for Back to School week, we asked a Pittsburgh-based photographer to curate the best of what he’s seeing locally on Instagram.

If you’re familiar with Instagram takeovers, and you follow Very Local on Instagram, then you know we’ve never successfully tried something like this.

Until now.

As part of our Back to School week of content – and particularly today’s focus on visual arts – we decided to bring in a little outside help to showcase some inspirational creative content weaving its way through the Pittsburgh interwebs.

We asked our friend Pat Hogan – a local photographer – to help us curate a selection of creative content he’s been digging here in Pittsburgh. After some research, Pat came back to us with the following Instagram posts. We’re super grateful for his time and efforts.

July 11th my grandfather died. It was sudden. So unexpected. My mental battery was already functioning at 40% and then wrapping my head around the guilt of having not been home to see him in a year. Yeah… the news took me to 1% . . . BUT this morning I woke up and @angeleasweetlife vibrations, love and light encouraged me to live with a grateful heart and put my life back together. My Gdad knew I loved him. And he was so proud of the work I do. He’d want me to continue giving my BEST! . . . So it’s time to plug in the cord and recharge because I don’t know when I’ll take my last breath. . . 8 is my favorite number the number of New Beginnings. So August is a New Beginning. August I’ll be learning more, creating more, loving like I’ve never loved, thinking beyond, and most importantly LIVING. Yup@living everyday like it’s my last. August = Recharge Not everyone will read this but for those of you who take the time to do so, drop a comment and tell me what helps you recharge?! 🔋

To live life, you need problems. If you get what you want the minute you want it, then what's the point of living? – Jake the Dog 🐶 ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀#latenightthoughts ⠀⠀⠀ I’m usually not a loud vent-er. I don’t like complaining to people and I don’t have that partner I can unload on who won’t feel exasperated with my words. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ So I take everything as it comes and keep pushing forward. I’ve been through a lot in my life and I’m blessed to be here and grateful for all that I have. But I’ve been sick of just living and I want to thrive. I want to improve every fraction of me life. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ The frustration of not being there + life’s daily inconveniences (spider bites, extended time lines, unexpected expenses, etc.) have been putting me in a mood. This doesn’t have an ending, this is just where I’m at. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ How do you handle feeling stagnant?
