Podcast: Latinx & Proud! Chatting with Karla Lamb about identity
This week on the podcast, we talk to Karla Lamb, senior programming director at City of Asylum. Karla is actively writing poetry and unpacking her identity as a Chicana and a Latinx poet through an impactful series called “Latinx & Proud!” After launching in 2019, Karla – along with her partners and sponsors – will celebrate its one-year anniversary this October.
FRI // Sharpsburg Sidewalk Sale
To drum up support for local businesses, the Sharpsburg community is hosting a socially-distanced street fair (masks required) on Friday night at the Chief Guyasuta Statue (1000 N Canal St. Sharpsburg, PA 15215). Expect live music, along with food, drink and discounted goods from participating Sharpsburg storefronts. Redhawk Coffee will preview their upcoming Sharpsburg roaster with free drip coffee to go and whole bean coffee for sale.
FRI & SAT & SUN // Mr. Smalls Cafe Street Series
Head to Millvale for a socially-distanced live music showcase outside of Mr. Smalls Theatre. Masks are required and full details including food and drink protocols can be found here. The weekend-long event takes place at the corner of Lincoln Ave and Butler St in downtown Millvale.
FRI & SAT & SUN // Lagerlands Beer Garden
The Lagerlands outdoor pop-up is back for its second weekend in the Southside. Reserve your table online then head to 339 McKean St. where you’ll be led to the Highline complex. The two-month pop-up includes beer from Cinderlands Beer Co, non-local beer curated by Hop Culture magazine, food from Burghers Brewing and cocktails from DeFer Coffee & Tea.
WED – SUN // Dancing Gnome Beer Garden Pop-Up
Dancing Gnome is taking reservations for their outdoor beer garden, located behind the brewery in Sharpsburg. Expect rotating food trucks every Wednesday through Sunday and a selection of in-house draft beers. They’ve even got these adorable cup koozies you can purchase with your beer in the garden.
