Plus a look at the @VintagePitt Instagram account.

Welcome to the first weekend of the “yellow” phase for Allegheny county. “Yellow” means that more stores will be open, but there are still a lot of rules about who can do what and how to keep things clean. We’re continuing to offer suggestions on how to explore the city and try new things from your computer or with plenty of physical distance.

NOW OPEN: Altered Genius Brewing in Beaver County
Although the grand opening party is delayed, folks can visit the area’s newest brewery and pick up a growler for takeout. Altered Genius officially opened its doors on May 7 in Ambridge.

ALONE TOGETHER: Pandemic Pete’s variety show
This weekend would’ve marked the seventh annual Pittonkatonk brass music community festival in Schenley Park. We chatted with organizer Pete Spynda on our podcast to learn more about a virtual project he’s been working on – a variety show called “Alone Together.”

You can download this episode or listen via iTunes, Spotify, or Google Podcasts. Join the conversation in our Facebook group for The Slaw.

VINTAGE PITT: A beautiful (archival) Instagram account
If you or someone you know is a Pitt grad (#H2P), send them to @VintagePitt on Instagram. We interviewed the curator behind this lovely throwback account to see how he showcases archived photos of Forbes Field, the Cathedral of Learning and more.

VIRAGO’S FURY: A special beer, now available at 2 locations in Pittsburgh
We joined Pink Boots Society during their 2020 brew day in March (before quarantine). The women-led, women-brewed beer is now ready. Here’s a look at where you can try Virago’s Fury – an India Pale Lager (IPL) that benefits women’s advancement in the beer industry.

REMINDER: Saturday is yard debris pickup day in the city of Pittsburgh. Follow the instructions and put your bags on the curb before 6 a.m.
