Newsletter: Gifts for Dads, Drive-Ins, Ice Cream & Welcoming Neighbors

Hot fun in the summertime.

by Lindsay Patross | June 12, 2020

This week at Very Local, we’re continuing to be mindful of what we’re sharing and how our stories fit into the greater Pittsburgh-area conversations. We are continuing our commitment to diversifying our content and our freelance pool and if you have something or someone we should know about, drop us a line.

With days getting longer and warmer, we’ve highlighted some summertime activities along with a compelling new episode of our podcast and a pro tip on how you can support independent artists through TRAF’s digital market.

Check out our Father’s Day Gift Guide to find the perfect gift for dad from local businesses. From barbecue sauce to beer koozies, we think you’ll find something your dad will love.

VEGAN ICE CREAM: delicious treats for those who don’t do dairy

HELLO NEIGHBOR: Welcoming Pittsburgh’s newcomers
This week on The Slaw, we chatted with Sloane Davidson of Hello Neighbor – a local nonprofit that supports recently resettled refugees and immigrants. Learn about how her team’s mentorship program serves Pittsburgh’s newest neighbors.

DRIVE-INS: Get out of the house and under the stars
We made a guide to Pittsburgh-area drive-in theaters you can visit all summer long. Check out these six drive-ins located just outside the city.

FLIGHT: Beer news snippets
If you enjoy following our weekly brewery shoutouts, then allow us to introduce you to Flight – a semi-regular recap of local beer news.

DIGITAL ARTIST MARKET: Support the TRAF vendors
For folks who were looking forward to buying from artists at the Three Rivers Arts Festival (TRAF), here’s a direct link to the digital market, which features 350+ independent vendors. And here is a Post-Gazette piece on the first-ever virtual version of TRAF.

House/Home

1322 Liverpool Pittsburgh PA

Take a peek at this historic house in Manchester. 1322 Liverpool Street has four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and is just a few blocks from Heinz Field and the bike trails.

The house was built in 1900, but we’re pretty sure the towel warmer and sauna aren’t that old.
