ABV: Newb Newb // Voodoo’s first batch from the new production system

Get the IPA that’s still wet behind the ears. Voodoo’s ‘Newb Newb’ has arrived (from Meadville) and it is FRESH. Here’s the full scoop.

It’s a newb. A newb, newb.

Literally. The team at Voodoo Brewery is proudly rolling beer off a fresh new production system (located at its Meadville, Pennsylvania location). Their first completed batch – the Newb Newb – is an American IPA. Let us rejoice.

Before we get into this week’s ABV, here’s a fun fact. As of this coming Saturday, March 30, Voodoo will be rocking EIGHT fully functional locations:

  • Six in Pennsylvania
  • One in Washington, DC
  • Oh, and the Grand Opening of Voodoo’s State College (PA) location is this weekend

Good. Vibes. (whew)

Why we recommend the Newb Newb:

I gotta stop sleeping on Voodoo. These guys are scaling and growing and pouring at festivals and taking home awards and doing all the good beer tingz. Their hazy IPAs stand up to everyone else’s in town and, let’s be real – the Newb is all about the hop selection.

As Voodoo’s first beer brewed on their new, custom-built DME system, the Newb Newb is hopped with a fresh, hand-selected crop of Citra and Mosaic hops. Kirt, Shawn and Matteo (from the Voodoo team) traveled to Yakima, Washington last fall to make their hop selections during the harvest season.

The Newb is delicious and it packs a punch, weighing in at 8.5% ABV. Highly recommend.

Where is Newb Newb available:

Voodoo Brewery, Homestead

(Folks on the road: Newb Newb is also on tap at Voodoo’s Grove City location, as well as their Lancaster location)

When is it available:

Newb Newb is available right now

How is it served:

This beer did not make it to the canning line (dang, no cans), but you can enjoy a fresh pour in the taproom OR scoop up a growler fill to take home. I expect it’ll be on tap for several weeks.

Honorable Mention Beer:

I’m just gonna own the fact that I’m riding the IPA train, HARD. Go with a Good Vibes IPA and scoop up some dope Good Vibes swag too. I love my Voodoo Good Vibes hat. They’ve got Good Vibes tees and tanks too (in male, female and baby sizes).

First Time Visitor to Voodoo?

Parking: you’ll want to park on the street (there’s generally plenty of availability). If it’s truly packed, just drive a couple of blocks in any direction (through residential Homestead) and you’ll find a spot.

Food: yes, Voodoo most certainly serves brewery food and it’s great.

Interior: it is massive. Super high ceilings, garage-style doors that open up during nice weather and PLENTY of seating. The bar area is long and spacious. They’ve got board games and clean restrooms and all the fixins for a good time.

Getting to Voodoo – head toward the Waterfront

Driving: get yourself to Browns Hill Rd and cross the Homestead Grays Bridge. Head past the Waterfront and into Homestead proper.

Bus: absolutely, yep. The 52L, 53L, 57, 59, 61C – there’s fantastic bus access down to Voodoo via Amity Street or Eighth Ave. Highly recommend it.

Uber / Lyft: as always, very legal and very cool.
