Family Friendly and Free Events to Honor MLK
Even if you don’t have a vacation day on Monday, there are lots of ways to celebrate MLK Day in Pittsburgh. Revisiting Dr. Martin Luther King’s visits to Pittsburgh
Here is a round up of some the articles that offer some history and photos of Dr. King ‘s visits to Pittsburgh.
- The Post-Gazette’s archive blog, The Digs, posted some photos from Dr. King’s visit to speak at the University of Pittsburgh on November 1, 1966, as well as some of his previous visits to town.
- In 2017, Rick Sebak wrote a story for Pittsburgh Magazine, which details many of the visits Dr. King made to Pittsburgh before his death.
- From the Carnegie Museum of Art blog, some photos that Charles “Teenie” Harris captured of Dr. King’s press conference during his visit to the University of Pittsburgh in 1966.

Ride With the King: Black History Tour
Doors Open Pittsburgh has planned a special Black History Tour for Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. There are two tour options, a self-guided tour or bus tour. The tour will visit three churches in Pittsburgh, where leaders from Pittsburgh’s African American churches will share first-hand stories.
