Two hundred and sixty-five years ago, George Washington first visited the intersection of these three rivers. The future American President was exploring new territory and ended up in a few battles here. It’s unclear from the history books whether or not he drank an Iron City beer or went to a Pens game, but we assume he had an all-around good time (aside from nearly drowning in the Allegheny River). We, too, are explorers and we want you to join us in exploring! We’re embarking on a new kind of local website. Very Local exists to help you explore the city and the culture that has grown around the point where these three rivers meet.

(We should note, while we share exploration with Gen. Washington, we here at Very Local come in peace and we strongly advise wearing a coast-guard certified personal-floatation-device if you choose to explore the river from any other vantage point than a bridge.)

This little site is just getting started but we have very big plans! Expect to see more stories and even events to help you explore the Steel City. Restaurant previews, places to go, classes to take, things to make, people to meet – that’s a pretty good summary of things we like to write about. We hope that Very Local will become your user guide to Pittsburgh.
