Many words of praise have been written about the smooth, soft and steady General Braddock’s IPA at Brew Gentlemen in Braddock. Here are ours.
UPDATE: One year to the date from when we tipped our hat to General Braddock’s IPA, the Brew Gentlemen team dropped their first batch of cans – and the General is looking sleek (and slim).
Yes, We Can. General Braddock's is now available in 12oz slim cans for $10 per 4-pack via our online store: https://t.co/sE0WHyZx5E.

ABV is our weekly series that highlights a different beer from a local Pittsburgh brewery every week. Check out our past picks here.
What some call ‘routine,’ others might refer to as a ‘mainstay’ or a ‘pillar’ of day-to-day life.
Today’s edition of ABV is a shoutout to the romance of clockwork regularity; a hat tip to the creatures of habit among us. The steadiest of steady.
The beer we are choosing to spotlight this week is damn near ALWAYS available at Brew Gentlemen and it is called General Braddock’s IPA.
If you haven’t already, we highly recommend giving it a try.

Everyone has a Pittsburgh story. The city’s connections reach far beyond the limits of its three rivers. Even from a distance, over miles and years, Pittsburgh is home. – General Braddock’s is a soft, balanced American IPA that you can come back to… just like the city where it’s made. – #brewgentlemen #generalbraddocks #americanipa #flagshipbeer #morebeer #withlovefrompittsburgh #pghbeer #pittsburghbeer #craftpittsburgh

General Braddock’s IPA – available at Brew Gentlemen
Beer Name: General Braddock’s IPA
Style / ABV: American IPA, 6.8% ABV
Why we recommend it: Brew Gentlemen has built a loyal following around its flagship IPA. They say it’s “soft, balanced and elegant” and they’re spot-on. For folks who remember BG’s first forays into craft beer, they’ve been holding steady – five years and counting – with General Braddock’s IPA.
A hazy, orange-yellow body with a fluffy white head, this beer is a polished, refined New England Style IPA, or NEIPA. You can expect to taste ALL the floral and tropical notes – orange rind, grapefruit flesh, tangerines and clementines, with subtle hints of pineapple, apricot and mango – as you make your way through the glass.
It finishes dry and leaves you wanting a second, or third, pour.
When is it available: As mentioned earlier, General Braddock’s IPA is BG’s flagship beer. You can expect to get it on draft at their taproom year-round.

While we’ve been working hard and having fun, our mission as a company has come into focus: to brew soft, balanced, elegant beers and create meaningful experiences while helping revitalize the historic town of Braddock. – Our taproom on Braddock Avenue, pictured here, is in many ways at the heart of our company. It provides the most direct experience possible with our beer and with us in a comfortable yet elegant space. – #brewgentlemen #bgturnsfive #fiveyears #anniversary
Honorable Mention Beer: If you’re able to make it out to Braddock fairly soon, try their V, or five, which celebrates Brew Gentlemen’s fifth anniversary. It’s an imperial porter aged in bourbon barrels and it’s available on-site in a 6-oz pour.
Just a heads up, V, or five, is a heavy hitter (weighing in at 10% ABV) and is currently the strongest beer on the brewery’s taplist.
