Howdy. Our Buccos are in town til Thursday of this week. Let us rejoice…with a crisp, refreshing lager.
If you’ve never visited Burgh’ers Brewing in Lawrenceville, allow me to introduce you to these dudes. They’re keeping it real. They’re doing amazing farm-to-table food. They’re brewing their own beer. And their 1890 Lager pays homage to Pittsburgh’s first-ever baseball team: The Pittsburgh Burghers.
Fun Fact: The Burghers existed for exactly ONE season before they became the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Did you know? Lagers are exceptionally difficult to brew. It’s true.
High gravity beers pack a punch and contain ingredients that can mask imperfections in the brewing process. Lagers, however, are designed to be light and subtle. They require very close attention to yeast, temperature and water profile.
Per beeradvocate.com: Lagers and ales are difficult to brew in small batches because the flavor caused by any brewing flaw is much more evident in the lighter taste characteristic. Lagers are very temperature sensitive; they leave little room for error.

Why we recommend it: To be completely honest, this is a dad beer* that gets it right. I’ve typed all kinds of words on hazy IPAs, juicy dry-hopped palate wreckers and tart AF sour beers. But, to quote my hometown friends in Ohio: “What about just a beer-flavored beer?”

When is it available: The 1890 is a Burgh’ers mainstay. It’s on now, it’ll be on tomorrow. And the day after. It pairs exceptionally well with their hearty food. Go on and order it; it’ll be on tap.
How is it served: Enjoy a fresh pour on draft or fill your growler to take home.

Honorable Mention Beer: Confession: I get it. I have a nose ring. I live on Butler St. I rock skinny jeans. My horn goes ‘HIP HIP.’ Allow me to recommend the Hipster (Hipstertone IPA). It’s hazy and tropical and juicy and hip. Just like the neighborhood.

Parking: on-street parking is available along Butler St and also down 36th St.
Food?
This is literally half of the Burgh’ers concept. They do food and they do it damn well. I have never been disappointed by a burger here. Their small plates are stellar for sharing with friends. Pro Tip: the pierogis rock.
Interior?
Plenty. Of. Space. For real, the seating is ample. The bar is welcoming. Sections of tables for groups of all sizes. This is a great space to take a group of friends.

Bus: Take the 91
Uber / Lyft: yep, in Lawrenceville they will scoop you up in a jiffy.
Visiting Burgh’ers Harmony Location
First Time Visitor?
Burgh’ers in Harmony is currently in a strip mall. They will be moving to a new location in Zelienople this spring.
Food?
Absolutely. Not a bad idea to peep their website (for the menu) as they might change things up between the two locations.
Interior?
Yup, all kinds of space and great for groups.
Getting to Burgh’ers
Bus: it is possible to take the Greyhound bus to Zelienople. But a one-way Greyhound bus ticket is $17-$25. Tbh, you’re better off taking an Uber or Lyft. Or just driving.
